It's important to find a counselor you feel safe and comfortable with, and in my experience, clients find it hard to open up in counseling if they experience the counselor as inauthentic. I strive to remain authentic throughout the counseling experience in order to promote a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, with hopes of providing an environment in which you can also show up as your authentic self. As a person centered counselor, while I see the benefits of specific counseling techniques and interventions, I believe the counselor-client relationship is the most important aspect of counseling. I believe that it is through the trust, authenticity, non judgment, and empathy expressed within the counselor-client relationship that promotes change. As a counselor, my job is to empower you, assist you in your journey of self exploration, challenge you, and consider the impact of culture and identity on your life and experiences.
Over the course of my career I've worked with a variety of populations and presenting concerns. I enjoy working with clients from all walks of life, and find working with clients experiencing life transitions and relationship issues to be especially rewarding. Additionally, I find fulfillment in working with clients from the LGBTQ+ community as well as helping to womxn feel empowered.
If I can provide a certain type of relationship, the other person will discover within himself/herself the capacity to use that relationship for growth, and change and personal development will occur. -Carl Rogers.
